Promoting Employment for People with Disabilities, rafræn ráðstefna

BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO THE CONFERENCE

In the context of Finland’s Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers, the Finnish Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment together with Ministry of Social Affairs and Health is organising a virtual Conference on Promoting Employment for People with Disabilities on 9 December 2021.

People with disabilities offer significant labour force potential and their employability needs to be increased in all Nordic countries. Investing in the employment of people with disabilities improves wellbeing, inclusion and equality in societies.

Since the challenge of a low employment rate among people with disabilities is the same in all the Nordic countries and regions, the aim of the Conference is to exchange views and experiences and share best practices. The development of social enterprises is one way of increasing the employment of persons with disabilities. In the spring 2021, the Finnish Government adopted a strategy aimed at strengthening the operating conditions of social enterprises, increasing their number and developing their competences. The implementation of the strategy will support social enterprises in their efforts in increasing inclusion and integration to work, developing sustainable business, and creating social innovations. The new EU Social Economy Action Plan provides the frame for mutual development work, both nationally and internationally.

The conference will be held in English with speech-to-text interpretation.
